Circa 1880s brooch with Etruscan revival details and a rose cut diamond flanked by two pinkish red stones. I was told they were rubies, but I think they are in fact paste. The diamond is genuine, rose cut and around 2 points. C claps works well and there is a loop on the bottom for attaching a chain.
Has Birmingham Assay marks of the anchor with a 9 and 375 for 9 karat gold and the letter O date mark. One of the harder letters to distinguish (they went through the alphabet several times since 1824) but I think it’s the 1888 mark.
Measurements: Measures approx 1 3/4 inches in length and 3/4 in width. Weighs 2.5 grams.
Condition: Very good. Front is in excellent condition overall with minimal surface wear and a couple of dimples in the metal, solder from a repair of the pin is evident on the back. Hallmarks have wear.
